Smarter Training Insights: Introducing Automatic Interval Detection
At Muvri, we believe that every workout tells a story — not just how far or how fast you went, but how your effort unfolded. Our new Automatic Interval Detection feature turns raw workout data into meaningful structure, so you can finally see how your training really works.
How It Works
Every time you upload a workout, Muvri's AI engine analyzes your pace, power, heart rate, and lap data to detect structured patterns. If a workout contains laps that follow an interval-like rhythm — work, rest, repeat — Muvri automatically classifies it as an Interval Session.
Each detected session is then broken into four distinct phases:
- Warm-Up – gradual ramp-up and preparation phase
- Interval – high-intensity work sets (e.g., 400m repeats, hill sprints, tempo blocks)
- Recovery – active or full rest between efforts
- Cool-Down – post-effort return to steady state
Intelligent Scoring
Every phase is independently analyzed and scored, using metrics like pacing stability, recovery efficiency, and effort distribution.
- Warm-Up Score reflects how smoothly you transition from rest to readiness.
- Interval Score measures execution quality — consistency, intensity, and pacing relative to your target range.
- Recovery Score evaluates how effectively your body resets between efforts.
- Cool-Down Score captures how well you return to baseline after the hard work.
Finally, Muvri combines these into a single Session Score — a snapshot of how well you performed the entire workout as a coherent training unit.
Accuracy You Can Trust
We developed and validated the model using a comprehensive set of real interval workouts, drawn from different devices and formats — from runners doing track sessions to cyclists performing structured power intervals.
Each file was analyzed to ensure accurate phase recognition, even when laps were manually pressed or irregularly spaced. The result is an algorithm that understands not just patterns, but purpose.
You're Still in Charge
AI does the heavy lifting, but you stay in control. You can manually override the interval flag — either to mark a session as interval-based or to remove it if it was misclassified.
This gives you the best of both worlds: intelligent automation and human judgment.
Why It Matters
Intervals are where progress happens — speed improves, endurance builds, and fitness peaks. But understanding how you perform those intervals is just as important as doing them.
With Muvri's Automatic Interval Detection, every phase of your workout becomes measurable, comparable, and actionable — giving you the insights to train smarter, not just harder.
Coming Next
We're already working on interval type detection (e.g., "hill repeats," "VO₂ max sets," "tempo ladders") and effort visualizations showing how your intensity evolved through each phase.
Stay tuned — the science of your training just got personal.
